he history of the University of Tartu now
contains the same number of years as a year contains days -
365. In its early days the University was as much a centre
of intellectual life as it is now. In the University books
were written and printed, disputes were held, music was made
and listened to.
f the written texts of that time are of
interest mostly from a historical point of view, then music
is - by contrast - as completely enjoyable today as it was
then. Let us celebrate our birthday with music as it sounded
in the early days of the university.
